Lessons learnt

Lessons learnt can be an important way to capitalise on successes and improve planning of future projects. It primarily involves reflecting on the extensive practical knowledge and experience gained during the implementation of a project or programme of work. It is especially valuable at the close of a project/programme to assess its effectiveness, and to examine the development of the project from planning to conclusion. This reflective process draws attention to the ways that the project adapted to the practical matters that arose during its operation. A comprehensive record of the lessons learnt during a project can therefore be a valuable resource. Lessons learnt during implementation of the forestry component of the Grasslands Programme were extracted for the Terminal Evaluation of the Grasslands Programme.
