Session 4
03 DECEMBER 2020
LAND UNDER BETTER MANAGEMENT AND ECOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
(12:30–14:00)
THEME: Sustainable land and natural resource management practices make good business sense
SESSION OVERVIEW:
In the absence of formal protection, and given the limited capacity of regulatory authorities, biodiversity priority areas face degradation and conversion pressures. Market forces can influence production sectors towards more sustainable practices through the use of, amongst others, sector codes of conduct or certification standards. Working with, providing support for, and guidance to, production sectors in order to help them use natural resources sustainably and in a way that enables persistence of biodiversity is essential in the development and application of these codes and standards. The value of a landscape approach for meaningful impact will also be explored.
