A review of what is currently known about pans in South Africa
Pans are unique in form, function, and biota, and particularly sensitive to the impacts of opencast mining.They are generally not well understood. The review of existing knowledge aims to consolidate currently fragmented information in order to form the foundation for improving our understanding of the functioning and value of pan ecosystems.
This review was published by the Water Research Commission (WRC) and is available to the public. Please note that the WRC requires members of the public to register with their knowledge hub in order to access any publications.
