Somkhanda community education

The Somkhanda Game Reserve is a 16,000 hectare tribally-owned area in KwaZulu-Natal.  The tribal owners, the Emvokweni Community Trust, are working to proclaim the area as a legal nature reserve according to South African law.  Wildlife ACT is working with the community to raise awareness of the community members as to the value of this land to promote sustainable economic development activities in order to inhibit degradation of the reserve, and to monitor the conservation effectiveness of the reserve in its current state.
