Biodiversity Information Management Training Events in South Africa 2019 and 2020
To support our efforts to grow capacity in biodiversity informatics science, and to develop our networks and communities of practice in biodiversity data and information management, SANBI-GBIF has compiled a list of training events (see link below), which will be taking place in South Africa in 2019 and 2020. This list is based on an open survey (accessible via the link below), which was distributed as a lead up to the Joint Biodiversity Information Management and Foundational Biodiversity Information Programme Forum (BIM-FBIP) 2019, and which we continuously invite stakeholders to contribute to. We wish to maintain a current register of training activities that have taken place in 2019 and will be taking place into 2019 and 2020, going forward.
The aim of the survey is to provide baseline information useful for a capacity development needs assessment and will assist SANBI-GBIF to identify relevant training events the community is developing or engaged in, and will help set priorities for future training needs of the community. It will also support potential future collaborative activities in biodiversity informatics training and curriculum development. This includes the development of communities of practice in areas such as data management (data cleaning, formatting, and publishing), geo-referencing, data mobilisation, data use, and its applications and in developing a community-driven training curriculum, where the Node will work with our national stakeholders to develop curriculum content.
